Before you start you will need:
- A Mitel phone and power supply.
- An ethernet cable.
- A computer with an unused ethernet port.
- This means your computer must have an empty ethernet port while already connected to the internet. Most commonly this means your computer is on Wi-Fi and the ethernet port is vacant.
- Administrator access to the computer you intend to use.
Instructions:
- On the computer, search for “view network connections” and open it.
- A window appears showing your adapters. Locate your Wi-Fi adapter and right-click it, then click the “Properties” option.
- In the window that appears, click the “Sharing” tab.
- Check the top box for “Allow other network users to connect…”, then select the adapter from the drop-down. It is likely named “Ethernet” and may be the only option.
- Click the “OK” button.
- Plug the power supply into the Mitel phone.
- Plug one end of the network cable (ethernet cable) into the open port on the computer.
- Plug the other end of the network cable into the Mitel phone; into the port closest to where you plugged in the power supply.
- Allow the phone to boot, this may take some time.
Additional Notes:
- After the phone is booted, you may need to assign the extension to it. Please see the guides on je.zendesk.com for more information.
- Please note that call quality will depend on the speed of your network connection at home, as well as the speed your Wi-Fi router supports (if using Wi-Fi).
- This setup will work for computers on a hot spot but call quality may vary.
- Please be aware that running a lot of network-intense programs on your computer may cause call quality to drop. Running Citrix or VDI and using the phone should note cause any issues in call quality.
